Learning Japanese

PermalinkI talk about learning Japanese.
I’ve been learning Japanese for a while now. I know, Kami learning japanese? Who would have ever thought am i right. The trans girl named kami is a weeb? What a suprise - In other news, the sky is blue. Anyways, stopping with the sarcasm for a second it has actually been a pretty interesting experience, and i wanna share some stuff ive learned along the way.
First up, as a disclaimer: I am not good at japanese. And not in like, a humble-bragging “oh, im not actually that great guys” kind of way. I really, really suck at it. Cant form a single sentence except for like, maybe introducing myself in the most basic fashion possible and even that is pushing it.
Thing is, thats kind of to be expected, and what im gonna be getting at in this blog post. Japanese is a really fucking hard language and chances are, you will not ever be good at it. Theres plenty of videos and posts about that already… And why it means you should just give up, and that maybe its just not worth the effort.
I think thats kind of stupid.
Learning japanese is really fun, and i dont think its difficulty should be discouraging you from trying it. You should be going into it with the mindset of wanting to learn japanese, not wanting to know japanese. Language learning, like any other hobby, should be fun. It doesnt matter how long the process to learn the language takes if you enjoy it. Because, even if it takes years, you will eventually learn it. The only thing stopping you from learning literally any skill is just how much time you are able to dedicate to it, and most importantly, how often and over how long a time period you are willing to practice it. If you just sit back and enjoy the process, see learning moreso as a hobby than a chore you need to do in order to eventually know japanese, theres not really much that can stop you from eventually learning the language. Mind you, these are my thoughts just seven or so months into learning japanese very casually (doing 120-ish kanji flashcards a day with wani kani), so this might change, but i do think that the sheer amount of content out there telling people not to even try is kind of approaching this whole thing from the wrong point. You should be trying to set the right expectations, not scaring people off of learning the language.
Anyways, thats just my two cents. Maybe i end up being terribly wrong or something, who knows. If that does end up being the case, ill update this post i guess?
Anyways, thats enough rambling for today, its wayyy too late right now. Cya!
